October 29 Binance Security Incident: Update on Initial Findings and Response.
We continue to share our findings on the October 29, 2026 security incident: what happened, the immediate actions we took, the controls we strengthened, and the progress made in recovering the affected assets.
Security is a shared responsibility across the industry. We are engaging independent security firms for a deeper review, and by sharing what we can, we hope to contribute to a stronger collective defense.
Our commitment has not changed: users come first. Binance will absorb the financial impact of the stolen funds, not our users.
As promised, Binance will cover the cost of the funds stolen in the recent security incident, not our users. We have already set aside more than 100% of the funds needed to cover these losses using Binance’s own resources. And we now have further progress to report. We have already recovered approximately 98% of the affected amount and are continuing to purchase the remaining token assets through market and OTC channels. Purchases of the remaining 2% are expected to take longer because these tokens are less liquid. We will continue to provide further updates.
We have also taken a new Proof of Reserves snapshot as of 2026-11-04 00:00 (UTC). It now covers 44 tokens, up from 10 in the previous snapshot, and is available on our PoR website.
Following a potential security issue reported by the third-party platform SignalPlus, we proactively removed all API keys linked to SignalPlus as an immediate precaution.
Binance’s own systems are unaffected. User funds remain safe.
