🔥Bafang Evening Brief | 11.5 The second day of post-election gains—and AI is getting hammered again
Yesterday’s rally was truly huge. But the mood shifted again before the market opened today, with money flowing out of AI hardware.
📈 Wednesday’s close, the first day after the election
Dow +3.03%, up 1,569 points in a day, closing at 53,356—its best day since April 2025
S&P 500 +1.58%, Nasdaq +1.44%
Oil prices fell more than 8% the same day. Vance said Republicans lost because of the Iran war, and the market started betting on a ceasefire.
📉 Before the market opened today (around 8:30 a.m. ET)
Dow futures +0.6%, S&P 500 +0.1%, while the Nasdaq 100 was down around 0.8%
$NVDA -1.5%, Marvell -4.5%, Intel -2.3%
IREN, Hut 8, and Applied Digital fell more than 4%; CoreWeave and Nebius were also down 3.9%
If Nvidia closes below $200, it’ll be the first time since July
Two earnings reports are also weighing on the market
$QCOM was down 9%-11% premarket; handset chip revenue was only $5.14 billion, down 26% year over year
Arm reported revenue of $1.44 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.52, both above expectations, but royalty revenue of $670 million fell short of the $720 million expected. Shares still fell 4%-5% after hours.
Employment, on the other hand, is holding up well. Initial jobless claims last week came in at 189,000, below the 196,000 expected and matching the lowest level since 1969. Airbnb and Lumentum report earnings today; on Friday, all eyes are on the jobs report.
💬 Bafang’s take: Put simply, it’s a rotation. The broader market is fine; the trouble is in the AI infrastructure trade. I’ll wait for the close to see whether Nvidia can hold $200.
