Let’s talk about cross-chain bridges:
A cross-chain protocol needs a mechanism to prove that an operation actually took place on the source chain. Common mechanisms include multisig or validator committees, light-client verification, and zero-knowledge proofs.
Compared with transferring funds on the same chain, cross-chain transfers involve additional layers of trust: besides the two chains themselves, you also have to trust the bridge’s contract code and verification mechanism.
