Why are there only 21 million bitcoins?
When Bitcoin first launched, the reward for each block was 50 coins. It has been halved every 210,000 blocks since then, roughly once every four years.
Bitcoin’s total supply is capped at around 21 million coins because the block reward is halved repeatedly.
When managing your money, the most important thing to keep in mind is to distinguish between “fewer new coins being issued” and “how the price moves” when discussing supply. They’re not the same thing.
