A new Bitquery report sheds light on the hack of Brazil’s Mercado Bitcoin: even after officials said the situation was “under control,” the attacker continued draining customer deposit addresses for about four hours.
The timeline stands out—the situation was declared under control at 12:56 UTC on November 2, but about 36,000 Ethereum deposit addresses were drained from 12:27 to 16:56. Bitquery tracked about $48.6 million across 10 chains, more than the roughly $40 million disclosed earlier. The same attacker address was also linked to a suspected BitMart wallet. BitMart’s founder confirmed it was hacked on the same day and said the same group was initially suspected; that portion amounted to about $391,000.
The platform has pledged to cover losses with its own funds, while the industry has frozen more than about $15 million. The website is expected to first reopen for read-only balance viewing on November 9; no date has been set for deposits, withdrawals, or trading. The hot wallet and deposit-address permissions issue has once again served as a warning.#加密安全 #MercadoBitcoin
