$XRP XRP Ledger fixes a security flaw:
Ripple’s network has just successfully activated an important technical update (fixCleanup3_4_0), and here’s what it means in simple terms:
- The problem they fixed:
There was a permissions bug on the network. For example, a company that issues a digital currency could give a payment processor permission to only “burn” (destroy) tokens when a customer withdrew their money. However, due to a flaw in the system’s rules, that same account with limited permissions could, under certain conditions, create new tokens.
- Was your XRP at risk?
No. This bug did not affect the native XRP currency, only tokens created on the network (such as stablecoins). Also, developers confirmed that no hacker exploited the flaw and no funds were lost.
- Improvements for the future:
The change also gets the network ready for people to soon be able to borrow and store funds in vaults much more securely.
The community and validators voted in favor of this improvement for two consecutive weeks to activate it in a coordinated way.
Does seeing Ripple’s network patch these issues in time give you more confidence?
