The Ripple chain just patched a ridiculous vulnerability last night: an account authorized only to destroy tokens could also use it to mint new ones out of thin air.

fixCleanup3_4_0 activated last night at 22:52 on ledgers 108,112,129, with 33 of 35 validators approving it. The vulnerability affected stablecoins issued on-chain and the like; it didn't affect $XRP itself, and there's no confirmation that anyone actually exploited it.

Even wilder, another decade-old bug came to light last month: in theory, it could have allowed excess $XRP to be issued. It was quietly patched in September.

Today, $XRP bounced 4.7% with the broader market, to $1.31. A: The bug is fixed, so that's bullish—time to jump in. B: If a decade-old bug could stay hidden, can you still trust this chain?
