PEARL is up 13% today, but still down 4% over seven days—let’s break down the numbers

The broader market is still in the green today. Bitcoin is at $80,431, up 3.5% over 24 hours, with $35.8 billion in trading volume. Ethereum is at $2,422, up 5.6%, and Solana is at $96, up 3.3%. After the market climbed back above $80,000 yesterday, it hasn’t rushed to pull back today, so the mood has stabilized somewhat.

PEARL is leading the gainers today. It’s Pearl’s token, currently priced at $1.66, up 13.3% over 24 hours but still down 4.1% over seven days. It’s up 43.5% over 30 days, with $12.7 million in 24-hour trading volume.

What does Pearl do? Put simply, it’s a public blockchain that uses AI computing power for mining. When GPUs run AI training and inference, the process of matrix multiplication is repurposed as proof of work, tying mining to computational work. Its website is pearlresearch.ai. The total supply is 2.1 billion tokens, of which 369 million are currently circulating—less than one-fifth of the total.

I looked through the public announcements but couldn’t find any new announcement that would explain today’s rise. Several market-tracking sites also say there have been no new updates from the project team. This move looks more like funds seeking catch-up gains further down the leaderboard after the broader market turned green. PEARL fell hard last week, so it’s bouncing hard today.

What makes me think this rally has some substance is where it’s bouncing from. On November 3, it fell to a low of $1.35. Today it climbed as high as $1.66—more than 20% up from its low in two days. It’s also up 43.5% over 30 days, so this isn’t just a one-day spike; the lows have been moving higher. And today’s $12.7 million in trading volume isn’t insignificant for a token with a $600 million market cap.

But let’s be clear about the risks. Less than one-fifth of the total supply is circulating, and its fully diluted valuation is $3.48 billion—5.7 times its current market cap. A substantial amount of tokens remain to be unlocked. The October 21 high was $2.46, still more than 30% above the current price, and PEARL is still down over seven days. Against that backdrop, today’s 13% gain is just a partial climb out of the hole.

My view is that the short-term trend is bullish, but I’m trusting price and volume, not the story. The broader market has stabilized, volume is there, and the lows have moved higher—all three conditions are in place today. If the price falls back to $1.43, around today’s low, or trading volume drops below $10 million, my bullish view is off the table, and I’ll reassess then.

When you come across a token with no new news that’s bouncing purely on the broader market’s momentum, do you first wait to see if it can hold its gains, or do you think it’s best to stay away from any rally without a news catalyst?
