XRPL has quietly patched a critical vulnerability that could have undermined confidence in stablecoins and tokens on the network. The newly activated fixCleanup3_4_0 update has addressed the underlying risk.

Imagine this: an account that was only allowed to “burn” tokens could suddenly “mint” new ones, including stablecoins. This directly threatens the fundamental separation between issuing and destroying tokens, potentially creating an uncontrolled supply and causing market chaos.

Fortunately, the vulnerability has not been publicly exploited, and $XRP itself was not affected. Instead, tokens issued on XRPL were the ones exposed to the bug. The update also includes important fixes for transaction pools, vaults, and loan calculations.

This is an extremely important step toward strengthening confidence in the XRPL ecosystem, especially in issued assets. Security comes first, and promptly fixing a vulnerability that could allow unauthorized token minting is a strong positive signal of a commitment to security.

Could this move help XRPL accelerate stablecoin or DeFi projects in the future?
