The Polygon network is considering a hard fork to recover approximately $6.5 million worth of stolen tokens—specifically, 70.49 million $POL tokens—following two hacks targeting Binance and Polymarket.
The idea is simple: the network could rewrite the ledger to undo the movement of the stolen tokens and return them to their owners. This would be a rare move because it touches one of the pillars of blockchain: immutability.
The governance discussion on the proposal is scheduled for November 5, and it’s not yet clear whether it will be put to a final vote or secure enough votes.
So far, there’s no official confirmation that the fork will be implemented, and the proposal is still under consideration and discussion within the community.
If you’re a holder of $POL or a user of the Polygon network, this may mean following the vote closely, since any change to the network’s rules could affect your confidence in it and how you interact with it.
Bottom line: recovering the funds is technically possible, but the price may be controversy over the principle of immutability in blockchain.
