Wall Street has really brought U.S. equities on-chain this time.
Morgan Stanley confirmed on November 4 that it had converted its U.S. stocks and Treasuries into tokenized form through DTCC’s Tokenization Service (which officially launched on October 28). The first cohort includes 20 institutions, among them JPMorgan, Citi, BofA, Fidelity, and Citadel Securities. DTCC’s DTC custodies more than $114 trillion in assets, and the first 34 securities eligible for tokenization cover approximately $30 trillion in market capitalization—including Russell 1000 constituents, major index ETFs, and U.S. Treasuries. They run on two chains: Canton and DTCC’s private Besu. The SEC granted no-action relief back in December 2025.
My take:
① Don’t treat this as “just another bank pilot.” Past RWA narratives have been driven by issuers doing their own thing. This time, the clearing and settlement layer itself is opening its doors—the custody and settlement logic for U.S. equities is starting to move on-chain. This is the starting point for 24/7 circulation of U.S. Treasuries.
② But don’t overestimate the near term, either. The 20 institutions have only “connected to the service”; Morgan Stanley and DTCC haven’t disclosed how much has actually been tokenized. Morgan Stanley’s own Trajectory Cross alternative trading system has also pushed tokenized stock trading from the second half of 2026 to Q1 2027. Liquidity is still a blank check.
③ The real beneficiaries are infrastructure providers: oracles, custodians, and compliant issuers. For tokenized Treasuries to see real use on-chain, off-chain price feeds (like $LINK ) and compliant issuers (like $ONDO ) are essential plumbing—first, the pipes need to be built.
④ A reality check: DTC’s doors are open only to eligible institutions. This is Wall Street using blockchain as a back-office efficiency tool, not a “decentralized revolution.” Keep expectations grounded.
Personal research; not investment advice.
