Hash functions explained in a few sentences:
Ethereum uses Keccak-256. Keccak-256 differs slightly from the final standardized SHA3-256 in its padding rules, so they produce different results.
The block header records the hash of the previous block. Tampering with any historical block changes its hash, causing all subsequent blocks to no longer match.
After downloading wallet software, compare it with the official SHA-256 checksum to make sure the installer hasn't been tampered with.
