Why does changing just one character make the entire hash look completely different?
First, the definition: the same input always produces the same hash, but even changing just one character in the input will make the output completely different.
Why does this work? Proof of work works because hash results can’t be predicted in advance. Finding a hash that meets the difficulty requirement takes repeated attempts.
Mining $BTC is essentially repeatedly calculating SHA-256 hashes to find a result that meets the difficulty requirement.
