The SEC has finally given the market a textbook answer.
Canton Network secured a no-action letter from the SEC: $CC has been officially recognized as a digital commodity, not a security. The most compelling reason? The token’s value comes from programmed operations and supply and demand, with no “central party” behind the network.
Put simply: Does your token’s price depend on the team’s say-so, or can the network run on its own? If it’s the latter, it gets a fast pass to regulatory compliance. This precedent will become the yardstick for evaluating projects.
On the same day, Circle delivered its Q3 report card: USDC accounted for 79% of stablecoin trading volume (up from just 66% last year), on-chain settlements hit $13.9 trillion, up 49%, and the GENIUS Act takes effect in January. Binance had just been hacked for $6.3 billion, then turned around and invested $100 million in Circle—institutions are all betting on the compliance track.
In the markets, after the midterm elections wrapped up, $BTC climbed above 80,500 in a pure short-squeeze rally; Brent crude plunged 5% to below $99, risk appetite recovered, and hot money came out to play again.
My take: After the elections, crypto’s biggest uncertainty shifted from politics to implementation. Keep a close eye on the compliance-led themes of stablecoins, RWA, and tokenization—and don’t get carried away with meme-coin projects.
