EDUCATIONAL CONTENT: RECEIVING A WEBHOOK DOES NOT MEAN THE PAYMENT HAS BEEN SETTLED.

A notification may indicate that a particular step in the payment process has taken place. But that does not necessarily mean the funds have been settled.

Webhooks can arrive late, be resent, or appear out of the expected order.

That’s why financial systems need to verify the actual status of a transaction before considering it complete.

This distinction is part of the security and reliability principles considered in the architecture of the COYT Security Protocol, under development by Coyote Capital.

A notification is information. Settlement requires confirmation.
