🔄💰 Gnosis Chain gives up its own blockchain in favor of Ethereum
In spring 2027, Gnosis Chain (GNO) plans to stop being an independent Layer 1 (L1) network and become an Ethereum-based L2.
⚡️ The transition will happen via a hard fork.
The reason is economic: maintaining its own L1 costs the Gnosis DAO $7–10 million annually. The network will also lose its independent consensus mechanism, which has around 200,000 validators.
