Perpetual futures: structure first, direction later
In futures, I only look at how crowded the market is, not chat-group messages.
For futures, I only care about three sets of numbers; everything else is noise.
1. BTC 78335, 24h 75736-78718, change +1.54%.
2. BTC open interest notional: 7.75 billion USD, 24h +0.57%
3. Long/short ratio across all accounts: 1.68
My view: The funding rate at 0.0100% is near zero, and the long/short ratio is 1.68. Leverage hasn't picked a side. If it hasn't picked a side, don't use high leverage to pick one for it.
Execution ranges (based on the current price ± structure, not an old chart):
- Momentum zone: Only consider chasing after price breaks above 78,961; below that, it's a false breakout
- Buy the pullback: 77,395-77,865; don't buy if this level fails
- No-trade zone: If the 1h candle closes below 76,925, skip this trade
My position: I only buy pullbacks; I don't chase breakouts. If the structure holds, I can keep a core position; any add-on must wait for the pullback zone.
Data: Binance spot 24h / Binance USDⓈ-M / Yahoo daily (5-day change) / altme_fng / mempool_fees / defillama_chains / coingecko_trending. I don't fill in missing numbers.
Are you flat and waiting for a pullback, or are you already in?

Takeaway: The long/short ratio based only on account counts can be misleading; the positions ratio of large traders is a closer measure of actual crowding.
Thought: The dollar has strengthened over 5 days while BTC is still rising: treat it as a decoupled move, and discount its staying power.
