ZEC rose 12% in a day, with just over a day until the mainnet upgrade
On the evening of November 4 (UTC+8), $ZEC briefly rose to $1,325 on Binance Spot, and was trading around $1,310 at about 19:00, up roughly 12.7% in 24 hours. During the same period, $BTC rose by less than 2%. Privacy coins were clearly seeing more action, with XMR also up nearly 5%.
There’s a clear catalyst behind the move: Zcash’s NU7 mainnet upgrade. Developers have scheduled it to activate at block height 3,543,405. Based on the current block production rate, that’s expected to be around the morning of November 6 (UTC+8), though the block height will determine the exact timing.
The upgrade makes a few changes. In short, there are three main points:
First, blocks will be produced faster. The time per block will drop from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Exchanges typically wait for three confirmations, which used to take almost four minutes; afterward, a little over a minute should be enough.
Second, some fees will be set aside. Sixty percent of the fees from each block will initially be kept out of circulation and gradually distributed back to miners later.
Third, the oldest privacy pool, Sprout, will be shut down. Coins still in the pool will no longer be accessible after the upgrade, so anyone with an old wallet should move them out before the upgrade.
A rally ahead of an upgrade is an old crypto-market playbook, and profit-taking often follows once the upgrade goes live. ZEC was around $1,126 on November 1, and it has swung quite a bit over the past few days. Think carefully about your position before chasing the price.
