The dollar has hit a new all-time high: UAH 45.67 according to the NBU. On the “black” market, it has already been seen at 47.50. Where are Ukrainians fleeing the hryvnia?
Since mid-October, the hryvnia has weakened from 45.08. In October alone, the NBU sold more than $6 billion on the interbank market, including a record $1.82 billion in the last week. The regulator names the reason directly: a sharp increase in budget spending. It says reserves are sufficient.
Now, crypto. According to one ranking, Ukraine is No. 1 in the world for stablecoin turnover relative to GDP. For many, USDT has long been a “digital dollar” that you don’t need to go to an exchange office to get.
But on September 28, Binance removed the USDT/UAH trading pair and hryvnia deposits. So people are buying through P2P. Small amounts currently cost UAH 46.00–46.22, almost the same as cash at a bank (46.10). But the very first listing with a limit of up to UAH 100,000 is at 47.70. A large “digital dollar” already costs as much as on the “black” market.
A frank word about the risks. A stablecoin is not a deposit: the issuer can freeze your funds. And P2P carries the risk of receiving “dirty” money and having your card blocked.
KSE’s forecast for 2027 is an average of UAH 47.8 per dollar.
How are you keeping your savings these days: cash dollars, a deposit, stablecoins, or $BTC ?
