The Zcash community just landed a “preemptive strike,” forcing the withdrawal of an important proposal! Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) has withdrawn its plan to move up to 98,000 $ZEC from the development fund to mining rewards. Community pressure worked just days after the proposal was introduced.

The plan would have drastically cut ZCG’s funding from 109,000 $ZEC to just 47,000 $ZEC by 2028, redirecting a large amount of ZEC to miners. This was a controversial move in terms of resource allocation.

The community’s fierce backlash forced ZCG to back down. This is not only a win for those who opposed the proposal, but also a testament to the power of decentralized voices in crypto governance.

For now, ZCG is keeping its allocation at around 8% of newly issued ZEC—equivalent to 144 $ZEC per day—for development activities. This decision helps avert a major shock to the Zcash ecosystem and keeps funding for community initiatives stable. Any future changes will have to follow Zcash’s usual governance process.

Could this be a positive sign for $ZEC ’s transparency and sustainability?
