Trump’s words and actions, hours apart
Just last night, he softened his stance, saying there would be “no strikes on Iran in the near term.” Then, just hours before vote counting began, the bombs fell. The NYT was more blunt: CENTCOM’s strike plans were on the table, and action could come as early as tomorrow. He said there’d be no action before the election, then struck in the final few hours. I give that promise-keeping a zero.
Even more telling was Iranian parliament speaker Ghalibaf’s response. He spoke directly to ordinary Americans: “The American people said NO TO WAR, and we agree.” That effectively turns the midterms into a bargaining chip—the Democrats have taken the Senate, public opinion is anti-war, and Iran sees that clearly.
The IRGC’s battle report was dramatic too: four oil tankers hit mines and were destroyed, two ships seized, 56 mines laid in the Strait, and a U.S. military drone shot down for good measure. The WSJ says Iran is now waging guerrilla-style attacks with underwater drones and limpet mines. The U.S. military is clearing mines while escorting ships, but shipping has still slowed. Europe has already spent an extra $142 billion on the same energy.
Trump did admit on Fox that high oil prices were caused by the war with Iran, calling tonight “not very pleasant.” No regrets in his words, but the whole country is footing the bill.
$BTC , riding the election outcome, rebounded and knocked on the door of 78000; $ETH followed suit. Gold climbed back above 4000 as the dollar weakened, and silver surged to 51. The money hedging against inflation hasn’t left. As long as the mine in the Strait of Hormuz remains uncleared, volatility won’t be in short supply. Keep your positions modest.
