A familiar face showed up on today’s trending list: ZEC. I’ll come clean: privacy coins both tempt me and scare me.

On one side, privacy advocates are saying: ZEC is up more than 12% today, making it the strongest performer among the big coins. As that article about the upgrade said today, the NU7 upgrade is coming around November 5, cutting block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds and making confirmations nearly three times faster. The more everyone is being watched, the more people want somewhere to hide.

On the other side, the skeptics say: Don’t get carried away. Zcash still has an internal dispute over money; its funding committee just withdrew a proposal to use treasury funds, and regulators have never gone easy on privacy coins. We’ve seen coins give back a 12% gain the very next day.

Here’s where I stand: The upgrade is real, and I agree there’s a need for privacy, but I’m not chasing today’s green candle. It only just fell below $1,200 yesterday. Calling today’s bounce a reversal is FOMO, not sound judgment.

Which side are you on? Do you think privacy coins should give people somewhere to hide, or do you think regulators will eventually clamp down on them?
