Someone asked: “What is data availability, and why is it important for scaling?
My answer: Data Availability Sampling (DAS) allows nodes to randomly download a small portion of block data. If repeated samples are successful, we can confirm with extremely high probability that the complete data has been published. Requiring every node to download all the data raises the barrier to running a node as blocks get larger. Sampling means each node only has to download a small amount, allowing data capacity to keep growing.
