Let’s talk about perpetual and delivery contracts.
Delivery contracts have a fixed expiration date. At expiration, they’re automatically settled at the settlement price, and positions can’t be carried beyond that date.
One thing many people overlook: delivery contracts use settlement at expiration to align their price with the spot price. Perpetual contracts don’t expire, so funding fees serve a similar purpose.
If you hold a delivery contract, keep an eye on its expiration date. As it approaches, decide in advance whether to close your position or roll it over to the next contract.
