🇰🇷 SOUTH KOREA’S RULING PARTY PROPOSES DELAYING CRYPTO TAX

🗳️ Ruling party leader speaks out: Kim Min-seok, leader of South Korea’s Democratic Party, has officially proposed that the government delay taxes on cryptocurrency income, instead of introducing them in January 2027 as currently planned.

💰 Tax rate awaiting implementation: The current plan imposes a 22% tax on profits from the transfer and lending of crypto assets exceeding the annual deduction of 2.5 million won, after the tax was previously postponed three times.

📜 Legal framework first, taxes later: Kim argues that the Digital Asset Basic Act should be enacted first, giving businesses and investors time to adapt to the new legal framework.

⏳ A two-year delay is still under discussion: A delay of around two years, until 2029, is being discussed within the party, but no alternative date has been finalized. A final decision will come after further consultations.

🌤️ If the proposal is approved, South Korean investors will have more time to prepare, rather than entering 2027 with a tax framework that still has many unresolved issues.
