In the latest news, on November 4, SlowMist founder Yu Xian posted that the theft disclosed by Binance was an advanced persistent threat (APT) attack, and should not be understood solely as the result of an engineer’s operational mistake or excessive privileges. He pointed out that such attacks may involve multiple stages, including intelligence gathering, social engineering, malware evading detection, exploiting trust chains, lateral poisoning, cloud environment infiltration, and bypassing risk controls, and may also involve zero-day vulnerabilities. Yu Xian warned that individuals and businesses should use this incident as an opportunity to assess whether they, their colleagues, or employees could be vulnerable to similar poisoning attacks, and strengthen their defenses. The initial social engineering is just one link in the attack chain; seemingly simple tactics can also have serious consequences in certain environments.
