The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has formally approved the listing and trading of single-stock perpetual futures on a U.S.-regulated exchange.
This derivative structure, popular in crypto markets and featuring no expiration date, has now been formally introduced into the traditional U.S. equities market for the first time, allowing it to be listed directly on exchanges registered in both capacities.
Previously, the lack of clear regulatory recognition largely confined investors seeking to trade these derivatives to offshore platforms. The regulatory green light now allows domestic institutions to offer trading instruments that do not require delivery at expiration.
Bringing a mature crypto-derivatives model into traditional finance marks a shift in Wall Street’s regulatory stance—from caution to substantive acceptance of around-the-clock, perpetual contracts.
