Assets can remain on their respective ledgers while still coordinating a cross-chain transaction. Sovereign Network Interoperability, announced by Consensys on November 2, takes this approach.

According to the official description, institutions first specify the transaction, approved counterparties, and settlement conditions. The system then selects a suitable route, coordinates execution, and tracks the outcome. One of the use cases it lists is delivering securities on one ledger while completing payment on another; by design, there is no need to first convert the assets into a bridged, wrapped version.

One important scope limitation can be easy to miss: the official FAQ says that EVM networks are currently supported, while a Canton connection is still planned. The product is aimed at institutions such as banks and custodians, so it should not be taken to mean that a new cross-chain gateway is now available to ordinary wallet users.

Being bridge-free does not eliminate trust boundaries. The participating ledgers, consensus mechanisms, validation software, and operational controls still need to be assessed. If related tokens are involved, a product launch does not guarantee price performance; be mindful of market and technical risks.
