🗳️ U.S. Midterm Elections: Already Priced In or a Volatility Trap?
Americans vote on November 3, and results will start coming in around 00:00 UTC on November 4. Prediction markets are leaning toward a Democratic landslide (Kalshi ~63%, Polymarket ~67% in late October); the House of Representatives seems all but certain, while the Senate is much more uncertain.
Why the crypto sector cares: the House of Representatives passed the CLARITY Act, but it failed a procedural vote in the Senate, 49–50, on September 15. Analysts disagree on the consequences: TD Cowen estimates that a Democratic landslide would block it, while Stand With Crypto expects bipartisan support to hold.
My take: with bitcoin already below $80,000, a landslide may already be partially priced in. A surprise, such as Republicans retaining control or a change in the Senate majority, could move markets more. Altcoins appear more exposed to regulatory news than bitcoin.
What to watch: early Senate results (TX, ME, MI, OH), comments on the CLARITY Act, and liquidity around key bitcoin levels.
Which outcome would be most favorable for crypto: a Democratic landslide, a divided Congress, or Republicans retaining control?
