France rejects two crypto exit tax proposals

The National Assembly struck down both exit tax proposals
One would have folded crypto assets into the existing exit tax
The other targeted households with total crypto assets worth over €800,000
provided they had been French tax residents for at least six of the past ten years
The tax would be levied when they moved their residence abroad
Neither proposal got enough votes

This doesn’t mean France’s crypto tax story is over
The budget bill is still delayed
Amendments on self-custodied asset reporting thresholds
and taxation of stablecoin swaps are still in the queue
What was rejected was “tax them just for leaving”
not a blanket tax exemption

A loosening or tightening of European regulations
will affect expectations around wealthy investors’ migration and compliance costs
Sentiment is somewhat positive in the short term
but in the medium term, it still depends on the final wording of the budget
For Bitcoin, this is more of a sentiment-side issue
not an immediate shift in market structure
