$ATOM This 15-minute sell-off was pretty decisive: volume shot up to 6.6 times the usual level, the active trade delta was -28.7%, and the buy-sell ratio was 0.55—sellers were clearly in more of a hurry. Price broke below the lower end of the last 20 five-minute candles. It didn’t grind its way down; it was pushed lower on volume.

What’s more interesting is the OI: price fell while OI kept rising, increasing on both the 1-hour and 15-minute timeframes. Its anomaly percentile was 94.8, ranking 16th across the entire pool. The notional change was negative, which suggests these weren’t old positions being closed out—it looks more like new shorts entering with leverage. In other words, this drop wasn’t a long liquidation cascade; someone is putting real money behind fresh shorts to push the price down.

With this kind of setup, either smart money sensed something coming, or crowded shorts are about to get taught a lesson by an intraday bounce. 24-hour trading volume is only 13.91M, and the pool is shallow. If the divergence between rising OI and falling notional reverses, things could get turbulent fast. I’m not chasing it. I’ll keep watching to see whether this new batch of shorts can hold its cost basis.
