ON-CHAIN METRICS REVEAL BHUTAN GOVERNMENT BITCOIN RESERVES DROPPED OVER 95%
Blockchain tracking telemetry from intelligence firm Arkham Intelligence indicates that Bitcoin holdings across wallets affiliated with the Royal Government of Bhutan have contracted by more than 95%, declining from an aggregate holding of approximately 13,000 BTC down to roughly 500 BTC.
Prior to this pronounced balance reduction, the South Asian nation commanded a sovereign digital asset treasury valued in the billions of USD. Unlike jurisdictions that acquire cryptocurrency via judicial confiscations, the vast majority of Bhutan's sovereign Bitcoin reserves were accumulated programmatically through state-run mining operations powered by the country's abundant domestic hydroelectric energy reserves.
Large-scale outbound transactions from sovereign depository addresses typically correspond to fiscal reallocation, treasury management, or liquidity transfers directed to major platforms to fund national modernization initiatives and balance-sheet adjustments. While formal state declarations regarding the transfers have not been released, the departure of over 12,500 BTC from state-level custody represents one of the largest sovereign balance-sheet reallocations monitored on the public ledger.
