The Xuhui District Court in Shanghai sentenced a man surnamed Zong to three years in prison, suspended, and fined him 40,000 yuan for illegally collecting data from a computer information system.

This is Shanghai’s first case involving the use of AI to forge signatures and appropriate the computing power of a large model. Zong discovered a non-public interface on an AI model aggregation platform and set up an intermediary website to resell image and video generation services.

Zong used AI to write scripts to register large numbers of accounts to claim sign-up bonus credits, bypass registration limits based on IP addresses, and forge electronic signature verifications. They made more than 290,000 unauthorized calls to the interface, making over 34,000 yuan in illegal profits.

The affected platform had previously recorded more than 4 million accounts registered from the same IP address within a short period and reported the matter to the police in March.
