1.096 million BTC, worth $84.78 billion, have been locked away for 17 years. Why can’t hackers touch Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallet to this day? 🤔🤔
1. No “master key” actually makes it safer
Today, we’re used to managing all our assets with a single seed phrase. It’s convenient, but it also means that if one point is compromised, everything is gone. Back then, Satoshi’s client generated a separate private key for every 50 BTC mined—a total of 21,900 sets, each unrelated to the others.
Put simply, even if a hacker got incredibly lucky and cracked one set, they’d only get 50 BTC. The remaining 21,899 sets would still be a complete mystery. What seemed like a “clumsy workaround” back then is, in hindsight, the best kind of risk diversification.
2. Don’t mythologize AI—it can’t do anything about random numbers
Lately, people keep saying AI can crack Bitcoin, but they don’t understand how it works. AI excels at finding patterns, while a 256-bit private key is purely random—there are no patterns to learn. Even if every supercomputer in the world tried to brute-force it, guessing just one key would take billions of years. This isn’t about whether AI is smart enough; it’s mathematically impossible.
3. The real fortress is “not moving”
The private keys are stored offline in a wallet.dat file, not in the cloud. There’s no exchange account, so hackers have no way in. More importantly, not a single coin has ever been moved, and no signature has ever been broadcast, so there are no clues on-chain to work backward from.
I’ve always thought Satoshi’s most impressive move wasn’t creating Bitcoin, but resisting the urge to touch this money for 17 years. Most stolen wallets have one thing in common: someone “used” them.
4. The one risk worth taking seriously: quantum computing
This needs to be made clear. With early addresses from 2009, the public key is exposed directly on the blockchain. In theory, a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could derive the private key from the public key.
But don’t panic. This risk is real, but it’s still a long way from becoming reality. And when that day comes, Satoshi won’t be the only one at risk—the entire crypto industry will need to upgrade. Bitcoin has plenty of time to prepare. #比特币 #中本聪 #黑客 #AI #量子威胁
