Binance still hasn't finished unloading the 6.3 billion, and Brazil's largest crypto exchange, Mercado Bitcoin, also reported a security incident in the early hours of the morning.
Official figures: approximately $38 million in assets were affected. The exchange has teamed up with Tether, Circle, Paxos, BRL1, and Chainalysis to freeze approximately $11 million, and the investigation is ongoing. Customer assets “will not be affected by this incident,” and no data was leaked—at least, that's what the official statement says. Deposits and withdrawals are temporarily suspended; updates on when they resume will be provided only through official channels.
They also publicly released a batch of destination addresses (EVM / $BTC / $SOL / Stellar / TRON) to make on-chain monitoring easier. Hypernative and others had previously flagged unusual outflows across more than a dozen chains, with figures in roughly the same range as the official estimate.
Two major firms in four days—the CEX hot wallet drama is getting a bit intense. Self-custody and withdrawal whitelists are still worth thinking about.
This is not investment advice.
