U.S. midterm election votes are being counted tonight, and the crypto market is holding its breath. $BTC is still flatlining around 79,000.

But last night’s two “new CEO debuts” are worth talking about. $AAPL Ternus’s first earnings report since taking over: EPS of $2.10 beat expectations, but it was a painful way to make money. With memory prices rising, he directly hiked prices across the iPhone, Mac, and iPad lineup to offset the costs. Greater China missed at $17.5 billion, and iPad and wearables missed too—all while the $57.5 billion iPhone business held everything up. Even more incredible, the iPhone Duo is out of stock. Asked when supply and demand would balance, he replied, “We have no estimate.” Translation: prices are going up again.

Palantir’s Karp, meanwhile, was a lot more brazen: revenue up 96%, U.S. commercial revenue up 148%, net income of $1.13 billion, and full-year guidance raised straight to 91% growth. He even said, “We doubled the entire business in a year.” Both are riding the AI wave, but the hardware seller is being chased by the memory tax and forced to raise prices to stay alive, while the AI software seller is firing on all cylinders and printing money. The contrast really stings.

Oil has raised the white flag for now: Iran softened its stance on negotiations, and WTI plunged 7.4% in a single day. The war premium vanished just like that.

My take: tonight’s vote count, Friday’s jobs report, and expectations for a December rate hike—those are the three things that will determine whether crypto prices can catch their breath. Don’t catch a falling knife on election night. Keep your hands off the trade button.
