NTT plans to increase its investment in Indonesian data centers, the head of NTT Data Group's Asia-Pacific data center business said Tuesday. According to Sina Finance, the group said at an event ahead of the opening of an expansion of its 12-megawatt Jakarta data center that it is seeking to acquire more land as part of a two-to-three-year expansion plan. Yasuhiro Kajiki, the group's managing director for Japan and Asia-Pacific, said in an interview that NTT Data Group is actively investing in building more data centers in Indonesia but did not disclose a planned investment amount. The company has invested $500 million in Indonesian data centers since 2015.

The data center industry is expanding rapidly, driven in part by demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. The growth has also faced opposition in countries including Malaysia and Indonesia over pressure on local power grids and water supplies, as well as competition for land. Kajiki said communication with local communities is crucial, as some projects are facing opposition from residents. Research and Markets estimated in a report released in January that Indonesia's data center market was valued at $2.81 billion in 2025 and is expected to reach $6.08 billion by 2031.
