Uniswap founder Hayden posted a thread of charts early this morning: the protocol is 8 years old.
The hard numbers are striking: since launch, DEXs have grown their share of trading from 0 to around 40% of CEX volume; on-chain trading related to real-world assets has surged by about 9,000% over the past year and a half; and since v4, hooks have accounted for roughly 11% of protocol trading volume. He also mentioned that in Q3, around 14,000 assets each had over $100,000 in trading volume over 30 days.
My takeaway isn’t that this is just anniversary fluff—it’s more like a sign that trading is continuing to move on-chain, bit by bit. The broader market has been weak these past couple of days, with $UNI hovering around 6.9, but the product narrative is still expanding toward the application layer and asset trading.
Which are you more bullish on: DEXs continuing to gain market share, or hooks building out the application layer?
