Hong Kong plans to launch a token representing a standard 400-ounce gold bar, Christopher Hui Ching-yu, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, said on Monday. The token would reference HAU, the city’s gold price ticker launched earlier this year. Analysts see the tokenized interbank gold project as a significant step toward Hong Kong’s ambition to become a major global gold hub. Ant Digital Technologies said its Anvita TaaS platform had facilitated a tokenized interbank gold transaction using tokenized deposits under Project Ensemble. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced a new phase of Project Ensemble, which would use tokenized central bank money to support round-the-clock cross-border settlement.
