I was asked: “A ‘customer service representative’ contacts you out of the blue. How can you tell if they’re legitimate?
My answer: If they claim they can help recover money you were scammed out of, but ask you to pay a fee first, it’s probably another scam. Scammers impersonating customer service representatives prey on your panic and trust in official sources: first they say there’s a problem with your account, then they pressure you to follow their instructions immediately, leaving you no time to verify anything.
