Brazil’s largest exchange, Mercado Bitcoin, confirmed it was hit by a cyberattack and has suspended all deposits and withdrawals.
The company said the incident is under control and customer funds have not been affected. However, on-chain security firm Hypernative estimates that around $40 million may have been drained across more than 10 chains, including approximately 106 $BTC . Tether has reportedly frozen around $3.7 million in related $USDT.
Even after the official statement, the attacker’s address continued moving assets, including USDe, suggesting the incident has not yet been fully resolved.
News of exchange thefts has emerged one after another over the past week, once again highlighting the concentrated risks of hot wallets and platform custody.
Risk warning: Do not deposit funds to the platform during the attack. Wait for an official announcement before withdrawals resume. This is not investment advice.
