Cuprate crowdfunding detail page reaches 85 XMR target | XMR fluctuates around $605 | Milestones incomplete, staying on the sidelines
My position is that fundraising progress should not be treated as a mainnet upgrade. The Boog900 project detail page on Monero’s official community crowdfunding system shows that the proposal to adapt the Rust node Cuprate for FCMP++ has raised 85.05 XMR, against a target of 85 XMR, with 67 participants. This figure is worth noting, but one detail must be made clear: the “Funding Required” list in the same system still shows 79.02/85 XMR, and the project remains in the funding-needed section. The completion dates for all three milestones are also blank. The detail page and the list may differ due to synchronization or caching; I’m reporting only the amount shown on the detail page, and am not claiming on that basis that the project has moved into execution, passed acceptance, or that FCMP++ has been activated on the Monero mainnet.
The work this funding is for also has defined limits. The proposal lists changes to tree construction, transaction relay V2, transaction and block types, consensus validation, and RPC interfaces. The aim is to enable Cuprate to participate in FCMP++ testing and stress networks. Cuprate is a separate Rust node implementation. If development and subsequent audits proceed as planned, more independent implementations could improve network resilience and reduce reliance on a single software implementation; but that would require several stages, including code, testing, review, a formal release, and a network upgrade. The official Monero website currently offers version 0.18.5.4 as its official wallet download, and FCMP++-related tasks on GitHub are not equivalent to an activation announcement. For trading, the completion of a crowdfunding campaign only shows that the community is willing to support development. It cannot be mechanically interpreted as additional spot buying of XMR, much less as a distribution of income based on the donation amount.
The macroeconomic and regulatory context should also be considered separately. FATF recently announced the launch of a standards implementation review covering jurisdictions with significant virtual asset service activities. The announcement did not name XMR or declare an immediate ban. Potential effects would be on platform compliance and trading channels, which are not part of the same causal chain as Cuprate node development. On October 28, the Federal Reserve held rates at 3.75%–4%, and highly volatile assets remain constrained by liquidity and risk appetite.
The market has yet to confirm the development narrative through price action. When I checked Kraken XMR/USD, it was around $604.75, with a rolling 24-hour low of about $596.76 and a high of about $614.90. Just after the start of the new UTC day, the daily open was around $604.35, indicating range-bound trading. The previous time I checked, it was around $606.91; it is now slightly lower. That is not enough to say the crowdfunding drove a rise or triggered a decline. In the short term, I’m watching support in the $596–$600 range, whether $608 can be reclaimed, and whether sustained buying emerges near $615. A break below $596 without a recovery would invalidate my tentative bullish view.
If I were trading this myself, I would currently stay out, with a small spot position as the only direction I would consider. I would enter using 1.5% of my total capital only after an hourly close above $608 followed by a successful retest, and provided the official project page has not been withdrawn or received a major negative update. I would first sell one-third at $615, then half of the remainder at $623. I would close the rest if a four-hour candle closes back below $608. The stop-loss is set at $598, which would trigger a full exit. If the price first breaks below $596, the plan is canceled and I will remain flat. I would not use high leverage or count a plan that has not been triggered as a trade or a gain.
