My understanding: The cost of high performance is that running a validator requires relatively powerful hardware and high bandwidth—a trade-off Solana makes in the blockchain trilemma.
The Solana Mainnet Beta launched in March 2020, and its native token is SOL.
$SOL is Solana’s native token, used to pay transaction fees and participate in staking.
