Two ZEC funding proposals still pending a decision | Price dips to $1,125 | Governance risks come before the urge to buy the dip

My stance is to wait for now. ZEC is gaining traction among Binance Square’s six-hour trending searches, but search interest is not an inflow of funds, let alone proof that a governance decision has been finalized. The official Zcash ZIP repository currently has two open funding proposals. Proposal 1428 discusses temporarily redirecting the 8% funding stream originally allocated to community grants into a reserve for future development and legal defense, and proposes that, if accepted, the community grant organization donate 50,000 ZEC to the network sustainability mechanism. Proposal 1431, by contrast, proposes continuing to earmark the community-grant portion of ecosystem funding, with a focus on supporting adoption and growth. The two texts set out different priorities and still require formal review and implementation steps. The 50,000 ZEC is a proposed arrangement in the draft; I have seen no official evidence that it has been transferred, burned, or taken effect.

Why should traders care about this? In addition to its privacy narrative, ZEC’s valuation depends on whether development and maintenance, legal responses, and ecosystem adoption can receive credible funding over the long term. Redirecting funds could strengthen the legal-defense reserve, but would also change the expectations of existing funding recipients. Maintaining the current allocation would provide continuity for community projects, but might not address the reserve issue. My view is that until a formal vote, activation conditions, and on-chain execution are clear, the market will discount governance uncertainty. This is only a projection of how the mechanism might work: today’s decline cannot be directly attributed to either proposal, and forum discussion does not mean the protocol has already changed.

The price is already giving a more direct risk signal. When I checked, Kraken’s ZEC/USD spot quote was around $1,152, with a 24-hour range of approximately $1,125 to $1,284; the $1,160 support level I was watching earlier has been breached. The condition I previously wrote about—“considering it again only after it reclaims $1,208”—was not triggered, so there was no trade or gain. In the short term, I’m watching to see whether the area around $1,125 is breached again, whether $1,160 can be reclaimed and held, and whether the former $1,208 support level can become support again. If the price recovers $1,160 but quickly falls back below $1,125, that would invalidate the rebound thesis. If the formal governance outcome differs from the direction of the proposals, the assessment of the funding mechanism will also need to be revisited.

If I were trading this myself, I would stay out for now, keeping only a conditional spot-long setup in mind and not using leverage to chase the decline. I would consider a test position equal to 2% of total capital only if the one-hour candle closes back above $1,160 and the level holds on a retest. I would first take half off near $1,185, then halve the remaining position near $1,208, and trail a stop on what remains. The initial stop-loss would be at $1,120; if triggered, I would close the entire position. If the price cannot hold above $1,160 within six hours of entry, I would close the position proactively rather than wait for the stop. If $1,125 breaks first, I would cancel the entire long plan and wait for a new price structure and governance announcement; I would not treat the decline as evidence that ZEC is cheap. The position would be small because both volatility risk and information risk are present.
