Odaily Planet Daily reports that Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin said a security incident led to more than $46 million in cryptocurrency being transferred out of its wallets on Monday. Hours after the company suspended deposits and withdrawals, funds continued to move from addresses linked to the incident, followed by thousands of small ETH transfers to the same address. Security firms said the attack was carried out through regular transfers, not by exploiting a smart contract vulnerability.

As of 16:42 UTC, stablecoin issuers Tether and Circle had frozen about $6.2 million in stolen funds. About $20 million had been transferred to newly created wallets, while more than $20 million remained in addresses identified by Mercado Bitcoin as related to the incident, including all 106 BTC. A Mercado Bitcoin spokesperson said customers had not suffered losses and no data had been leaked. The incident remains under investigation and has not yet been attributed to an organized group.
