The XRP Ledger is preparing a patch for an issue in its authorization design. A role authorized to destroy tokens can also bypass restrictions and mint new tokens out of thin air. The institutions most directly affected are those issuing stablecoins on the ledger; if the vulnerability is exploited, issuers’ reserves and circulating supply will no longer match.

The patch requires a validator vote. Of the 35 trusted validators, 33 have already expressed support, and the fix is scheduled to activate on Wednesday.

This window is worth watching. The vulnerability has been disclosed, but the patch is not yet active, making the ledger especially vulnerable over the next few days. Issuers need to check two things: whether they have been affected, and who else in the custody and redemption chain is using the same key to unlock two different doors.

Security issues at the ledger level ultimately affect issuers’ reserve disclosures and redemption terms. $XRP #XRP账本 #On-chainSecurity
