Brazilian cryptocurrency exchange Mercado Bitcoin (MB) announced that it had experienced a security incident, which was quickly contained. As a precaution, the platform has temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while it investigates the incident, tracks the assets involved, and coordinates with the relevant authorities. Mercado Bitcoin said that no customers suffered losses and no data was leaked. Earlier reports suggested the incident may have caused losses of around $40 million, but the exchange has not confirmed the exact amount. Mercado Bitcoin is one of Brazil’s largest homegrown crypto exchanges and has officially disclosed that it has approximately 4.2 million customers.
