In the early hours of November 2, Mercado Bitcoin, Brazil’s largest exchange, confirmed it had been hacked and suspended deposits and withdrawals. Initial tracing found that more than $40 million in assets had been transferred out, involving BTC, ETH, SOL, and at least 10 other chains. The hacker didn’t exploit a smart contract vulnerability, but instead signed transactions directly to transfer the coins, as if making a normal transfer. How they obtained signing access is still under investigation. The exchange says users will not suffer any losses.
