🔴 BRAZIL'S LARGEST EXCHANGE HIT: MERCADO BITCOIN FREEZES DEPOSITS AND WITHDRAWALS

Mercado Bitcoin, Brazil's largest crypto exchange with over 4.8 million clients, has confirmed a security incident in one of its systems and temporarily suspended all deposits and withdrawals.

Onchain security firm Hypernative flagged over $40 million in suspicious transfers across ten chains, including 106 BTC, linked to the incident. The exchange says it quickly contained the breach, that no customer losses occurred, and that no data was leaked. Its teams are now investigating, tracing assets, and coordinating with authorities.

🔹 WHY IT MATTERS
This is the second major exchange security incident in days, right after the $6.3B Binance hack. Even a contained incident at a top regional exchange freezes millions of users' funds and shakes trust in centralized custody.

⚠️ HONEST RISK
The $40M figure is flagged suspicious transfers, not a confirmed theft total, and the exchange's no-loss claim is still unverified by an independent audit. The reopening timeline is unknown. Do not treat this as proof of safety, and do not keep funds you cannot afford to lock up on any single exchange.

What is your take: is this an isolated incident, or is exchange security becoming the market's biggest risk right now? 🐂/🐻
