Came across a report by 21st Century Business Herald: At Hong Kong FinTech Week, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui said the interbank tokenized gold trading project is about to launch. Built on the HKMA’s Ensemble, each gold token represents one standard 400-ounce gold bar, priced against Hong Kong’s gold benchmark, HAU. Tokenized deposits will also be introduced alongside it.

Hong Kong Economic Journal added another detail: On EnsembleTX, the first interbank transaction combining “tokenized gold × tokenized deposits” has been completed, with the gold bars held in allocated form in a Hong Kong vault. According to观点网, the Hong Kong Gold Exchange and settlement bank CNCB (Hong Kong) completed an Ensemble pilot, aiming for full commercial launch next year. The plan is to operate on a dual track of conventional deposits and tokenized deposits, targeting 24/7 delivery-versus-payment settlement.

On the same day, Cyberport opened applications for the “Blockchain and Digital Asset Pilot Subsidy Scheme 2.0.” Before year-end, it is also due to submit to the Legislative Council a regulatory bill covering virtual-asset advice, dealing, custody and management. Settling interbank transactions in physical gold bars is a much more concrete step in RWA infrastructure than just slogans.
